June 17, 2010 – Honeywell will modernize a key steel manufacturing plant operated by Turkey’s largest steel producer. Honeywell will implement a range of process automation solutions and services at Erdemir Iron and Steel Company’s Karadeniz Eregli production facility in Zonguldak, located on the Black Sea. The changes will boost reliability and ease-of-operation at the site.Honeywell will implement an Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) and two C300 Controllers at Karadeniz Eregli. The Experion PKS will give plant operators unprecedented control of the production process and improved decision making in the control room.
Operators will be able to access more diagnostics information than they could previously and the system will be easier to use, thanks to the Experion PKS’ intuitive user interface. Meanwhile, the open design of the new system will make it easier for Erdemir to modify or extend in the future.Incorporating the latest process control technology, Experion PKS will boost reliability and help prevent unplanned shut-downs of the plant. At the same time, the new system’s integrated maintenance features will reduce maintenance costs . Honeywell will also deliver a range of services including consultancy, installation, start-up and system training.

The company is Turkey’s only flat steel producer and manufactures plates, hot and cold rolled sheet and tinplate.
