ILS Technology to supply deviceWISE 2.0 for Mitsubishi PLCs

14 February, 2007
Mitsubishi will use deviceWISE 2.0 framework to expand the functionality of its Q Series programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the areas of database connectivity, service oriented architecture (SOA) connectivity and configuration management.

Leading global automation company seeks expansion of database and service oriented architecture connectivity BOCA RATON, Fla. - Feb. 14, 2007 – ILS Technology has entered into a joint development agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corp. (TSE:6503).

Under the agreement, Mitsubishi will use ILS Technology’s deviceWISE 2.0 framework to expand the functionality of its Q Series programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in the areas of database connectivity, service oriented architecture (SOA) connectivity and configuration management. “As a global leader in automation systems, Mitsubishi Electric understands the end customer benefits of establishing enterprise-to-automation connectivity in real time,” said Fred Yentz, chief operating officer of ILS Technology. “The joint development project substantially supports our company’s goals of enhancing connectivity between the plant floor and the enterprise.

This increased level of connectivity enables greater business intelligence by allowing companies to operate with peak efficiency and productivity.”The deviceWISE 2.0 platform is designed to break through complicated layers of data transfer between enterprise and automation systems to allow secure, real-time connectivity that can unlock the full capabilities of next-generation production tools. “Mitsubishi Electric partners with best-in-class companies to enhance its automation offerings and reinforce its leadership position in the global market,” said Yuji Watanabe, senior manager for Mitsubishi Elecgtric.

“The opportunity to work with ILS Technology represents our on-going effort to assess the most innovative technologies available and explore ways in bringing these enhancements to business leaders around the world.”The deviceWISE 2.0 framework links PLCs, RFID readers and other intelligent devices in a network to enable bidirectional data flow between systems running, IBM DB2, IBM Websphere, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Servers and other software. This connectivity provides companies with an accurate picture of the production environment, allowing companies to monitor and retrieve information faster and to respond to operational issues in real-time.

“ILS Technology has developed an impressive technology portfolio to directly link controllers on the production floor with enterprise applications through its deviseWISE 2.0 framework.” said Satoshi Takeda, manger controller section for Mitsubishi Electric. “Our companies are working together to develop world-class automation systems that capture real-time data on the production floor and communicate directly with enterprise systems, increasing reliability and greatly reducing the fault domain.

Such systems could greatly improve inventory management programs and in-process production decisions for a variety of production enterprises.”

The deviceWISE platform eliminates the use of intermediate PC technology for this connectivity and therefore reduces installation, maintenance and security issues and cuts long system integration cycles.By enabling intelligent devices with deviceWISE 2.0, users can process data and send it to a variety of external systems including databases, message and queuing systems such as IBM Websphere and BEA; and other systems like email servers. deviceWISE 2.0 also increases the value provided by intelligent devices in production, enabling OEMs to able analyze the data that is transported to enterprise applications and in turn increase the value of their intelligent devices for customers.
