March 16, 2011 - Invensys Operations Management released its Triconex Priority Logic Module (PLM), the first of a series of modules to satisfy stricter regulatory requirements in the nuclear power industry.
The Triconex PLM can be used in nuclear applications requiring diversity of design and prioritization of up to four sources of control signals: safety related systems, control systems, and/or a manual emergency control commands. The PLM has been certified as complying with multiple internationally recognized standards for use around the world in safety critical applications. This provides the ability for a nuclear client to reduce the likelihood of common cause failures between safety and non-safety related systems in a nuclear power plant.
The incorporation of the Triconex PLM as part of integrated safety and controls solutions for nuclear power plants will assist with regulatory approvals while lowering project design and integration risks to allow timely start-ups of new plant builds and digital upgrades of the existing fleet. The PLM’s Field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based design assures complete testability and long-term sustainability as a member of the Triconex nuclear safety product family.
Key capabilities:
- Diversity and defense-in-depth receives actuation commands from multiple sources;
- Selects highest priority input to drive the actuation device;
- No Common Cause Failures between the PLM and the rest of the system;
- Simple, CPLD-based device;
- Fully testable (proof of design testing) for all input combinations and states;
- Surveillance testing;
- Go/No-go testing.
