North Dakota State College of Science ISA Student Section participates in a brief question and answer session to familiarize ISA members with this section.

The North Dakota State College of Science ISA Student Section was asked to participate in a brief question and answer session to familiarize ISA members with this section. Shane Suko, associate professor of Electrical Technology at North Dakota State College of Science, participated in this introduction.

ISA:

Describe your section to other ISA Members as if you were speaking to someone hearing about it for the first time. What makes your section stand out?

Suko:

Our student section is headquartered out of North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) in Wahpeton, N. Dak. We are the second oldest two-year college in the U.S., having started in 1903.

I teach in the Electrical Technology Program here, which was started in 1923.

We are the first and only student section of ISA in North Dakota. We began our section in 2008 because of the amount of interest exhibited by our students to start something new that would broaden their knowledge and exposure to automation. We are on our fourth successful year and look forward to many more to come.

ISA:

Tell Insights readers about something your section and the members involved have been introduced to that has helped to expand your automation knowledge.

Suko:

Our student section has had many opportunities to tour facilities that use automation on many levels, which is great exposure for my students and me as an instructor/advisor. We have also had the opportunity to attend trade show events, which allows all of us to see the latest/greatest that automation has to offer.
