ISRA releases multi-camera system for robotic measurement
The measuring system is based on the photogrammetry method and is designed to make industrial measuring robots easier and more flexible to use

July 19, 2016- ISRA’s photogrammetric multi-camera system makes use of all six degrees of freedom in determining the spatial position of a robot- mounted sensor, to increase measuring accuracy. With multiple high-end GigE cameras, it captures the entire working area of the industrial robot, determining the sensor’s position and orientation.

The system is designed to make industrial measuring robots easier and more flexible to use, as it enables the robot’s absolute spatial position to be determined. The robot’s travel paths can thus be adjusted by means of offline programming and without the need to take into account special conditions and constraints. Even in challenging production environments, the measuring system can be integrated with robot measuring cells and processes. The system takes less than a second to capture the absolute position of the sensor.

The measuring system is based on the photogrammetry method. Four cameras are used to measure a robot cell, as potential faults caused by the robot mean that one or two cameras would not be sufficient to ensure the required level of accuracy. The cameras are mounted in a frame made of carbon-fiber composite material and equipped with infrared LED flash lights. No additional set-up is required to perform the measurement. The system boosts the flexibility of robot-based measuring technology..
