October 13, 2011 - Mayr introduces contactless monitoring for safety brakes. Release monitoring prevents unpermitted operating conditions such as for example starting up against closed brakes. The contactless system is wearfree, robust, magnetic field resistant and completely reliable. As there are no mechanical parts, the lifetime of this contactless release monitoring system is not dependent on the switching frequency. The system is magnetic field resistant and works completely reliably and wear-free.
It is also resistant to impacts and vibrations as there are no movable elements and the electronics are completely encapsulated. Further advantages of the proximity sensor are the high switching point repetitive accuracy, the low hysteresis and the low temperature drift. The switching bolt for the proximity sensor is mounted at the factory and, on contrast to the release monitoring with microswitch, cannot be adjusted. Application errors due to adjustment of the switching point position are therefore excluded. This feature also plays a major role in maximising the functional and operating safety.
The contactless release monitoring system can be designed as an NO or NC contact. With the NC contact, the 'High' signal is generated if the brake is switched when de-energised. Here the armature disk drops and the brake closes. Any breakage of the sensor cable is recognised when the brake is closed. With the NO contact function, the 'High' signal is generated if the brake is energised and the armature disk releases the rotor.
The brake is released. Only on generation of the 'High' signal is the motor enabled for start-up. This reliably prevents the motor starting up against a close brake. Cable breakage is recognised when the brake is open. The contactless release monitoring system can be integrated into various brake construction series made by mayr power transmission.
All safety brakes which could previously be fitted with a microswitch-based release monitoring system can now be equipped with the new contactless system with proximity sensor.
