The partnership is intended to provide OPC UA Toolkits and extended consulting, training and development services to North America.

November 27, 2017 - MESCO Engineering, a development services provider, and Unified Automation (Kalchreuth, Germany), a provider of OPC developer tools, have signed an agreement for MESCO to provide Unified Automation’s OPC UA products in North America. MESCO provides superior services for consulting, training and contracted development alongside with the OPC UA toolkits. Customers will benefit from the one stop shop, getting software and services directly from the experts.

MESCO, founded in 1990, is a German company that has had a presence in North America since 2003. It opened its Boston-area office in June 2017, staffed with professionals with a combined experience of over 75 years in the industrial automation market.

Unified Automation has become a supplier of OPC UA toolkits. Headquartered in Germany, Unified Automation pioneered OPC UA from its inception in 2006, working on the standards and providing software development kits and tools for a wide variety of platforms.

As an engineering services provider, MESCO’s clients frequently use their services as an extension of their existing development teams. These areas of focus include:

  • OPC UA
  • Functional Safety according to IEC 611508
  • Motion Safety (including the 11 advanced motion functions defined by the IEC specification)
  • IO-Link products and services
  • Ethernet fieldbuses (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, CC-Link, and their associated Safety extensions)
  • Foundation Fieldbus
  • HART (wired and wireless)
  • Explosion proof electronics design
  • Pre-certification and Agency certifications

In both the factory and process automation markets, MESCO and Unified Automation view OPC UA as the enabling IIoT technology of choice that allows sensor and controller level data to be moved from edge devices into the cloud. Since OPC UA can be scaled down to the sensor level, MESCO can embed OPC UA into intelligent field devices that previously were not able to provide this data.
