Metso to automate Nynas refinery in Scotland

June 17, 2006 - Metso Automation will deliver a control room relocation and modernization to Nynas UK AB's refinery in Dundee, Scotland. The order includes dynamic applications network metsoDNA, DNAhistorian data management system, field engineering and installation. The comissioning of the system is scheduled for February 2007. The Dundee refinery is one of the largest bitumen suppliers in the UK. Nynas AB is originally a Swedish company, which now operates all over the world.

Its business is divided into three operations: Nynas Bitumen, Nynas Naphthenics and Nordic Refining. Nynas Bitumen produces bitumen, which is used as a binding agent in road construction as well as in various special applications for industrial purposes. Following the production of bitumen there are naphtenics distillates. These are used for feedstock to naphthenic oils and excess distillates, which are sold as specialty fuels - mainly in the marine market. Nynas Naphthenics concentrates on highly refined oil products that are used in a wide range of areas, from lubricants to rubber.

Nordic Refining co-ordinates the group's refinery functions. Metso Automation specializes in automation and information management application networks and systems, field control technology and life cycle performance services. Its main customers are the pulp and paper industry as well as power, energy and oil and gas industries. Metso Automation operates worldwide and has sales and customer support units in 34 countries in Europe, North and South America, Asia and Australia, and Africa.

In 2005, Metso Automation's net sales were EUR 584 million.The number of employees totals appoximately 3,200. Metso is a global engineering and technology corporation with 2005 net sales of approximately EUR 4.2 billion. Its 22,000 employees in more than 50 countries serve customers in the pulp and paper industry, rock and minerals processing, the energy industry and selected other industries.
