CARY, N.C (November 14, 2006) - MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division’s M-Series sensors are now being utilized to increase the safety and efficiency of international coastal shipping between European nations. The highly accurate magnetostrictive level sensors provide precise measurements of hazardous materials being carried by fuel barges as required by the European Agreement Concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Inland Waterways (ADN). Using only one probe for temperature, material and water levels, the M-Series provides an additional safety barrier by monitoring both the level and temperature of the hazardous substance, allowing the barges to safely ship high volumes of petroleum, kerosene, diesel, oil, LPG and other hazardous chemicals.
“Continuous level gauging and a rugged package make the M-Series ideal for fuel storage and shipping applications,” said Adrian Totten, level products marketing manager for MTS Sensors. “A greater emphasis has been placed, in the last few years, on the regulation and restriction of dangerous substances, especially in Europe, where restrictions like ADN and RoHS have been widely applauded and accepted.
The precision and accuracy of the M-Series make the transport of these substances safer and easier.”The ADN Regulations were enacted by the European Union to ensure a high level of safety in the international carriage of dangerous goods by inland waterways; prevent any pollution resulting from accidents or incidents in transport; and facilitate transport operations and promote the international trade of chemicals. With a non-linearity of 0.035% and a repeatability of 0.01%, the M-Series Level Sensors are one of the most accurate and affordable level gauges on the market.
The sensors are maintenance-free with no recalibration needed and are available in digital and analog formats. The M-Series Analog sensor has a gauge order length of 500mm to 12,000mm and an output of 4-20mA with HART-Protocol. The M-Series Digital sensor has a gauge order length of 508mm to 18,300mm and is network-compatible. Both the M-Series digital and analog versions have TEX safety approvals for zones 0 and 1.MTS Systems Corporation is the world leader in magnetostrictive linear-position and liquid-level sensor technology.
MTS Systems Corporation is a global operation, with facilities in the U.S., Germany and Japan.
In the U.S., the MTS Sensors Division has an ISO 9001 facility manufacturing rugged and reliable Temposonics position and liquid-level sensors.
