March 5, 2012 – Murrelektronik announces MIRO GSM that controls and maintains machines and installations with a mobile phone. It provides current machine operating conditions through short messages but also allows a machine operator to control the outputs via text message as well. Simply insert a SIM card into MIRO GSM to enable communication over a cellular network.
Connect up to six inputs per device (e.g. switches or sensors) and use the included configuration software to define the limits for each device. If the set limits for the input are reached, MIRO GSM will automatically send a predetermined text message to designated recipient(s). MIRO GSM also supports active responses.
For example, send a text message to the module and it answers with the current operating temperature of a machine. If needed, the plant operator can also switch up to four relay outputs with a text message over the MIRO GSM network. Available functions include being able to:
- Shut down a machine
- Switch on an air handling unit
- Switch on a light
- Report critical temperatures
- Inquire about current liquid level
- Monitor voltage drops over a 24-hour period
The MIRO GSM software also has an acknowledgement function. If receipt of a text message is not confirmed within a certain time, the message will be sent to a second recipient and, if necessary, to additional recipients. The module will continue sending texts until receipt is acknowledged. The order of recipients and the time frame can be freely defined.
