Orlando, FL

On Thursday, 27 September 2012 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., don’t miss the panel discussion “The Best of the ISA Mentor Program – Building the Future” where Greg McMillan and Hunter Vegas will review the highlights of the ISA Mentor program and discuss the accomplishments of their protégés and other opportunities for improvements, including the need for more mentors.

The ISA Mentor program has been thriving since inception at ISA Automation Week 2011 primarily due to an enthusiastic and extremely talented group of users mentored from plants in Argentina, Brazil, Malaysia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and the USA. In the past year, more than 20 questions and answers (Q&A) were posted on the ISA Interchange website as a result of discussions from the ISA Mentor program. Knowledge needed is gained on the job and the best practices and key concepts are largely not documented in the literature. The ISA Mentor program seeks to provide the missing knowledge and guidance.

In the panel discussion, McMillan and Vegas will present what they have learned in the mentoring process, sharing some of the more important Q&A to illustrate how the questions simply and concisely get to the heart of a general automation application with a richness of potential opportunities for further discussion. They will also use excerpts from their new ISA book 101 Tips for a Successful Automation Career as examples of the mutually beneficial relationships. The protégés will each briefly present the most important knowledge they have gained and how it has affected their outlook and interests in their career.
