New housing options available for C-Series sensors…CARY, N.C (July 17, 2006) - MTS Systems Corp. Sensors Division has expanded its housing options for the C-Series sensors. The new housing options allow for exposed use by offering a new version that is lighter weight, less intrusive, and offers IP67 environmental protection. The housing allows users a more efficient and durable sensor utilizing no-fastener construction, which ensures the assembly will be more robust in the harshest of environments.

The lighter design offers increased application flexibility, less maintenance, and fewer parts. The improved housing will include an increased range of liquid-level applications by enabling the float-housed magnet to take advantage of the full operating range of the sensor. “By eliminating the need for fasteners in the construction of the C-Series sensor, we have ensured that the sensor will operate to its full potential in the toughest environments,” says Jesse Russell, Commercial Product Manager for MTS Sensors.

“This means our customers will be able to add on a sensor to existing designs with little, if any, modification to their specific application-saving time and money.”The C-Series Core sensor, used in the housing, is designed for use in higher-volume OEM products, such as medical devices, small cutting/fastening/forming tools, and various consumer products, especially those with extreme environments. The Core sensor electronics fit completely inside a 36 mm (1.4 in) by 23 mm (0.91 in) cylindrical package.

MTS engineers developed Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) that allow the dramatic size reduction, resulting in a sensor that is optimized for high volume production. The C-Series Core sensor has a 0 to 5Vdc or PWM output available, and can be powered with a standard 5 Volt power supply.MTS Systems Corporation is the world leader in magnetostrictive linear-position and liquid-level sensor technology.

MTS Systems Corporation is a global operation, with facilities in the U.S., Germany and Japan.

In the U.S., the MTS Sensors Division has an ISO 9001 facility manufacturing rugged and reliable Temposonics position and liquid-level sensors. With a strong commitment to research and development, product quality and customer service, the Sensors Division is constantly seeking ways to bring the highest value to customers.
