OSI to supply SCADA system to Rochester Public Utilities

The new system will replace a legacy system in use for nearly a decade at the RPU plant in Rochester, MN. It will allow improved operations and improved management of electric and water resources.

May 7, 2014 - Open Systems International has been awarded a contract by Rochester Public Utilities (RPU) of Minnesota to provide a new SCADA system based on OSI's monarch platform. RPU is a division of the City of Rochester, MN which is the home to the world famous Mayo Clinic. RPU is the largest municipal utility in the state of Minnesota serving 50,000 electric customers and 38,000 water customers. RPU operates several power production stations, transmission and distribution lines. In addition to power, RPU operates and maintains wells, storage facilities and water distribution mains to provide an abundant supply of water to Rochester.

The new OSI system will allow improved operations and improved management of electric and water resources. RPU’s OSI system includes advanced (SCADA) functionality and OSI's Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture (monarch) with many features including a Graphical User Interface, Real-time and Historical Trending, an Alarm Management System, a Secure Remote User Interface, a Communications Front-End Processor, Historical Information System and Data Archiving, and also Short-Term Load Forecasting. The new system will replace a legacy system in use for nearly a decade. OSI provides open, state-of-the-art and high-performance automation solutions to utilities worldwide.

These solutions include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Network Management Systems (NMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), Generation Management Systems (GMS), Substation Automation Systems (SA); Data Warehousing and Historians, as well as individual software and hardware products and Smart Grid solutions for utility operations.
