The two companies will provide street lighting management solutions, which will be based on wireless mesh devices and Central Management Software.

November 8, 2012 – Paradox Engineering and Streetlight.Vision will develop Smart City solutions, including Smart Streetlight management. The two companies will provide lighting management solutions, which will be based on PE.AMI wireless mesh devices and Streetlight.Vision Central Management Software (CMS).

With more than 40% of their electricity bill used for street lighting, more and more municipalities plan to deploy solutions to reduce energy consumption while improving the efficiency of lighting infrastructures and increasing the service quality and safety for citizens. Paradox Engineering has a solid expertise in open standard and interoperable Smart City wireless networks, which the company is implementing in several projects in Europe, US, Middle East and Asia Pacific. With more than 500 projects in 20 countries, Streetlight.Vision is the most experienced and the leading provider of Smart Streetlight Central Management Software.

Together Paradox Engineering and Streetlight.Vision will offer a truly open and integrated platform to accelerate outdoor lighting management projects and extend them to Smart City projects.

Leveraging the ‘Internet of Thing’ approach, Paradox Engineering and Streetlight.Vision will help municipalities effectively and remotely monitor every object in the streets: individual lamps, streetlight cabinets, EV charging stations, pollution sensors and more. All these devices will be connected into the Paradox Engineering citywide wireless mesh network and exchange information about their status and operations. Customers will therefore get data about light levels, failures, energy consumption, with the possibility to schedule lighting levels at fixed time or along with dynamic conditions such as activity, traffic, ambient light, weather, and sunrise/sunset times calculated by the embedded astronomical clock based on GPS coordinates of the end-devices.

The resulting solution allows municipalities and utilities to save up to 60% on their energy bill and maintenance costs.

“We are very glad to share our Smart City technologies and expertise with a company such as Streetlight.Vision,” states Gianni Minetti, President and CEO, Paradox Engineering. “By integrating our PE.AMI platform with Streetlight.Vision software, we’ll be able to leverage the expertise of both companies and build a unique and innovative offer perfectly fitting customers’ requirements with its open standards, interoperability and scalability features.

We’ll be able to be even more effective in meeting the needs of all those cities around the world which have decided to turn ‘smart’ by choosing a unified and integrated platform, adhering to open standards and providing interoperability and supporting public lighting and other applications in a more sustainable and cost-effective way.”

“Streetlight.Vision’s and Paradox Engineering’s technologies represent a perfect fit for municipalities to save energy and maintenance-related costs on their public lighting network,” adds Christophe Orceau, General Manager, Streetlight.Vision. “Municipalities can’t accept proprietary products which bind them to one only supplier.

The Streetlight.Vision Software is designed to be open and supports all the relevant smart streetlight hardware and technology suppliers. Together with the Paradox Engineering’s IPv6 6LoWPAN wireless mesh networks, we extend this openness and leverage the streetlight electrical grid to provide new project opportunities for cities as well as for streetlight installation and maintenance companies. The same infrastructure shall be used for streetlight control as well as for other urban services such as smart metering, waste management, EV charging station control, traffic control and pollution monitoring.”

FEATURES OF PE.AMI AND STREETLIGHT.VISION

PE.AMI by Paradox Engineering stands as the ideal architecture for full-mesh IPv6 ultra-low power wireless sensor networks for smart grid and smart city projects, with a variety of possible applications for advanced meter reading, energy networks control, public lighting, parking and transport management, water irrigation management, solid waste collection management, etc. Wherever a mote generates a data, PE.AMI is the platform to collect it and integrate it into a wider system of information enabling a next generation of services. It is fully compliant to 6LoWPAN protocol and offers the highest levels of modularity – any application can be added in the time with no change or upgrade – since representing an out-of-the-box, self configuring and self healing solution.

It leverages sub-GHz ISM bands for higher penetration and noise immunity, featuring ultra low power technology to stand the harshest

PE.AMI is being implemented in several Smart City projects around the globe, including some very innovative public lighting management projects. In San Francisco (USA), Paradox Engineering’s platform has been selected to pilot a citywide scalable wireless network to control street lights, but also monitor and control parking spaces and meter pricing, manage electric vehicle charging stations, pumps and seasonal lighting. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission preferred Paradox Engineering’s solution for its superior levels of flexibility and security, the full compliance to 6LoWPAN protocol and the opportunity to leverage PE.AMI as a multipurpose open standard

Streetlight.Vision offers an integrated Monitoring and Control Software for smart outdoor lighting management. Based on powerline and radiofrequency (wireless) networks, it provides a feature-rich ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) architecture with unlimited openness and features, based on 7 year experience working with the largest cities in the world. Thanks to an innovative device-centric data model, a robust and secure web application server and user-friendly web interfaces, it provides reliable monitoring of all components and devices of streetlight networks.
