Cincinnati, OH – November 2005 – The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), announced today that Dr. Mike Morshedi, inventor and co-inventor of several multivariable predictive control technologies in widespread use today, has been awarded the Computing Practice Award. The award is given for Dr. Morshedi’s ongoing contributions to advance the field of real-time process control and optimization. Dr.
Mike Morshedi is one of the preeminent thought leaders and mathematical experts in the field of advanced process control and real-time optimization worldwide. Since the introduction of constrained Dynamic Matrix Control (US patent #4,616,308 by Morshedi et al), that led to the widespread commercialization of constrained multivariable predictive control, Dr. Morshedi’s ability to combine advanced mathematics with pragmatic application continues to bring benefit to process industry operations. Dr.
Morshedi is presently Chief Scientist at PAS, Inc., where he supports the delivery and development of STAR® multivariable predictive control, NOVA® real-time optimization, and Polymers NLC™ – the world’s only commercial technology to combine multivariable predictive control with first principles modeling. These technologies have been installed at most of the world’s largest oil companies, and also hold a significant presence in the petrochemical, chemicals and purified gas industries. As a follow-on to these successes, Dr. Morshedi continues to push the boundaries of traditional control and optimization technology with his latest work to unify multivariable control with real-time optimization.
This will reduce the implementation and maintenance effort associated with real-time process optimization projects as delivered by commercial technologies today, while also increasing customer benefit from higher application up-times and increased accuracy across the operating spectrum.
