The xplore competition challenges students to design and build an automation project using Phoenix Contact technology. Winning teams will receive a trip to the 2015 Hanover Fair in Germany.

April 30, 2014 - Phoenix Contact invites students in the middle school through university level to apply for the sixth edition of the xplore New Automation Award, which will take place in 2015. The xplore competition challenges students to design and build an automation project using Phoenix Contact technology. Winning teams will receive a trip to the 2015 Hanover Fair in Germany. Teams and individuals from the middle school, high school, vocational school, college, university and apprenticeship levels are eligible to submit their project ideas. The top 100 teams from around the globe will receive a budget to select Phoenix Contact products and software to support their project.

Thirty of these teams will present their projects in Germany in February 2015, where a high-ranking panel of industry experts will evaluate them. Teams can compete in one of seven different categories: education, building, recreation, factory, environment, “twins” or “Inspiring Engineers.” New to the 2015 competition is the “Inspiring Engineers” category for projects from contestants 18-years or younger. The “twins” category is for teams from two or more institutions that collaborate on a project. One winning team from each category will receive a second trip to Germany to showcase their projects at the 2015 Hanover Fair on the international stage.

Applicants must submit a two- to three-minute video that describes their project idea and introduces team members by May 31, 2014. Phoenix Contact will announce the 100 selected projects in June. To learn more about the competition or to submit an application, visit www.xplore.org.
