PLCopen updates Compliance Testing & Certification specs

17 March, 2009
1 min read
Specs for certification of IEC 61131-3 editors have been updated for the first time since 1998.

March 17, 2009 - From the start of PLCopen one of the activities was the certification of the IEC 61131-3 editors. These editors could be tested for multiple programming languages for Base Level, Conformity Level and Reusability Level. In order to do these tests PLCopen has specified guidelines. These guidelines include the requirements for the accreditation of a test laboratory, meaning the definition of the procedures and tests that a potential test laboratory has to comply with in order to become a PLCopen accredited test institute. Since the last version of these guidelines was dated 1998, it was time for an update.

This update includes a simplification in the accreditation procedure. From now on the Managing Director of PLCopen also can do the accreditation procedure at the applicable test laboratory. PLCopen just released this new version, Version 2.0. This is the basis for accrediting several test institutes in Europe and Asia.
