ATLAS single-axis amplifiers provide high performance torque control of DC Brush, brushless DC, and step motors.

January 31, 2013 - Performance Motion Devices announces ATLAS family of single-axis amplifiers that provide high performance torque control of DC Brush, brushless DC, and step motors. ATLAS amplifiers are packaged in a compact solderable format and utilize standard through-hole pins for all connections. They are available in both vertical and horizontal mounting configurations with and without heat sink attachment tabs. ATLAS digital amplifiers are used for direct control of motor torque, or in conjunction with higher level controllers for velocity or positioning applications.

Their small size and high power output make them ideally suited for applications such as laboratory automation, medical equipment, general purpose motion control, fan & pump controllers, and other industrial motor control applications. ATLAS digital amplifiers provide unmatched control features including digital current control, user-programmable gain parameters, performance trace, field oriented control, and I2t current monitoring. They are powered from a single supply voltage, and provide automatic protection from overcurrent, undervoltage, overvoltage, overtemperature, and short circuit faults. ATLAS amplifiers provide an input voltage range of 12-56 Volts, and current output ratings up to 14 amps continuous, 25 amps peak.

The ATLAS family has been designed to work seamlessly with PMD's Magellan family of motion processor ICS which provide user-selectable profile modes including S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring, and electronic gearing. Alternatively, they can be used with dedicated FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), or general purpose microprocessors. Communication is via SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) using a simple, packet-oriented protocol. For step motors, a pulse & direction input mode is provided. Support tools for ATLAS include a command library, and Pro-Motion - PMD's easy-to-use Windows-based exerciser program that helps the user set up and optimize motion applications.

An ATLAS Developer's Kit is available, which allows new users to get ATLAS up and running in a matter of minutes.
