The wireless network at Pfalzwerke Netz integrates remote substations, secondary substations, renewable energy systems, and switching points into a network control system while providing protection from unauthorised access and tampering.

September 3, 2014 - Prego services and INSYS icom provided secure integration of remote substations, secondary substations, renewable energy systems, and switching points into the network control system of Pfalzwerke Netz while providing protection from unauthorised access and tampering. INSYS icom’s industrial routers for mobile radio, ADSL, and SDSL are used to connect the stations to the network control system. The units establish connections to the control centre via Virtual Private Network (VPN). As an additional security measure, the network between the remote stations and the control centre was divided into several security zones protected by firewalls from prego services.

Prompted by the successfully completed project, the continued cooperation within the “Excellence in M2M” network founded by INSYS icom enables the companies to offer complete network solutions with optimally matched hardware and software for the energy industry. “We connect generators, storage systems, consumers, and grid equipment, creating smart energy supply systems”, says Anna Wels, partner manager at INSYS icom. “For that purpose, we develop and supply reliable, user-friendly devices and solutions for secure data communication at any location.”

Peter Schreieck, head of communication & network at prego services, emphasizes that the two companies complement each other, adding: “The combination of our industry and network expertise and INSYS icom’s hardware know-how results in an excellent competence regarding solutions and technology for energy industry companies – they can use it for considerable benefit when introducing smart grid technologies.”
