May 14, 2012 - ProSoft Technology releases the 802.11n EtherNet/IP-enabled Industrial Hotspot Family. This provides a solution for users requiring advanced diagnostic tools for system reliability. The embedded diagnostics provides real-time monitoring of wireless network health which reduces troubleshooting time and may prevent costly system shutdowns. The EtherNet/IP-enabled object is directly accessible from a ControlLogix PLC, CompactLogix using an included Add On Instruction (AOI).
The AOI automatically generates controller tags containing the diagnostic data, which may be monitored by the main routine thus providing the program with information such as the health of the wireless network, wireless connections and network availability. Benefits include high integration into the ControlLogix, CompactLogix architecture which means quicker detection of communication problems. Quick detection of deteriorating communications enables the controller program to manage production better, utilize redundancy and quickly notify the need for maintenance.
Other benefits include reduction of controller programming time with the automatically generated tags, speeds operator interface screen development to include wireless network status and key metrics, and Industrial Hotspots show in RSWho tree for quicker programming and diagnostics. The wireless diagnostic information may be quickly embedded in an operator interface using the included Factory Talk View Faceplate.
