IST8301C is an integrated chip containing 3-axis magnetic sensors with an ASIC controller.

February 21, 2014 - Saelig announces IST8301C - a single-chip 3-axis digital magnetometer sensor, housed in an extremely small form factor (2.5 x 2.5 x 1.0mm) 12-pin BGA package. The IST8301C is an integrated chip containing 3-axis magnetic sensors with an ASIC controller.

The IST8301C outputs 13-bit data over a wide magnetic field range (± 1000uT) in a fast-mode 400kHz I2C digital output. The compact form factor is easily surface-mounted and is ideally suited to high-volume production consumer electronics, navigation systems, and magnetometers. The IST8301C embeds 32 slots of 16-bit FIFO data for each of three output channels X, Y, Z. Since the host processor does not need to continuously read data from sensor, the FIFO's "wake up only as needed" operation allows consistent system-power saving.

Functioning on 2.4V with a standby current of 10uA and full operation at 300uA, increased battery life can be attained in many portable applications. The IST8301C offers a heading accuracy of ±1degree and a wide magnetic field range ±10Gauss, while unique features of the 0.18um technology IST8301C include Anti-Offset and Anti-Temperature, eliminating errors caused by temperature and factory mismatch. This allows for calibration-free designs unaffected by external interference: auto zero-drift eliminates errors from external magnetic sources.
