June 6, 2012 - S.I. Tech introduces model 2147 Profibus-DP fiber optic repeater.

Model 2147 is small size (4.2x4.8x1.7 in.) ruggedized Bit-Driver with one RS485 (DB9) port and two Fiber Optic ports.

The Fiber Optic ports can be multimode (MM) for short distances and single mode (SM) for long distances. It can also be a combination of multimode on one side and single mode on the other side to match your installed fiber. Both multimode and single mode is provided with ST connectors per Profibus standard. Units offer Din Rail mounting with redundant 24VDC power input commonly available in industrial plants. Boards are conformal coated for environmental protection from Dust/Dirt/Humidity.

Enclosure is rated IP40. Model #2147 has some unique and special features including visual display showing data rate being detected by the Bit-Driver. This assists the user in making sure that devices on Profibus (RS485 Bus) are set to the same speed. Additionally, model 2147 can be set for “Ring” operational mode. In this special mode, redundancy is provided from the Fiber Optic Bus.

Should a break occur in the fiber optic link, both units on either side will change transmission so as to keep “Ring” active. Thereby communication is restored immediately and no data or control is compromised. This is extremely important in 24/7 factory automation and operation. Model 2147 also has built in alarms that can be setup for audio alarm to alert user regarding failure of a particular device on the bus, making replacement easy. Finally, model 2147 Profibus-DP fiber optic repeater has several status indicator LEDs to show operational status and error condition for each port.
