October 19, 2012 – SICK moved to a larger office building in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This move is due to the positive economic situation in Canada, and the strong growth in sensor sales to the processing industries, as well as the raw materials and energy sectors.

The demand for intelligent sensors for assembly tasks in automotive production, flight baggage logistics, sorting letters and packages in postal distribution centers, and the extraction of oil from oil sand deposits, for example, created the need to increase staff and office space to better meet the needs of customers.

“Our primary goal is to be able to directly offer our customers in Canada the SICK Group’s complete program of products and services. Additionally, SICK’s worldwide expertise, first-class application knowledge, and after-sales service are readily available. This includes system technology on-site and software integration for all SICK’s products,” Craig S. Smith, president of SICK Ltd., summed up at the grand opening of the new company building.

“Here in Richmond Hill, we now have a superb, new office that will assist us in providing great services to our customers. It has taken the collective efforts of the staff here, support from our two U.S. subsidiaries and the leadership of Craig Smith to get us to this day. I would like to acknowledge this and thank everybody for their contribution in delivering this location to such a high standard,” declared Markus Vatter, member of the Executive Board of SICK AG, CFO and Chairman of the Board of SICK Ltd, Canada.

SICK founded its Canadian subsidiary, SICK Ltd., as part of its acquisition of the business conducted by AMKO Systems INC. (Toronto) in early 2009. Until then, AMKO had been providing SICK analyzers for waste gas and dust measurement. Building on the employees’ wide-ranging technical expertise and customer orientation (the original AMKO personnel continued with SICK), business was further developed under SICK’s management.

The Canadian subsidiary has also been selling sensors from SICK’s two other segments – factory and logistics automation – since mid-2011.
