ATLANTA, April 18, 2006 - Siemens Energy and Automation, Inc. today presented Abbie Taylor, a pre-engineering teacher and FIRST Robotics coach at Northview High School, with the 2005-2006 Siemens Teacher Scholarship of $1,000 for her time and dedication to the FIRST Robotics program. "This award recognizes Ms. Taylor's exemplary teaching and dedication to the Northview High School FIRST Robotics team," said Tom Kopanski, vice president, Automation and Motion Division. "Siemens believes that teachers like Ms.

Taylor has been teaching three levels of pre-engineering classes at Northview since July of 2004. "I got involved in FIRST Robotics because I support its mission to encourage students to be innovative and develop technological knowledge and skills,"Taylor said.
"I do this for my students because it provides career and interest opportunities that cannot be achieved through other conventional means." The Northview High School and Siemens Energy and Automation FIRST Robotics team competed in the Peachtree Regional competition on March 17 and 18. The team was a finalist, ranking eighth out of the 45 teams that competed. The championship competition will be April 27-29 at the Georgia Dome.In addition to sponsoring the Northview FIRST Robotics team, Siemens sponsors six other FIRST Robotics teams across the country.
"As a company, we understand the importance of reaching out to the next generation of engineers and scientists by engaging students in science and math," said Kopanski. The 2006 FIRST Robotics Competition formally kicked off on Jan. 7 at Southern New Hampshire University where teams were shown this year's game and field and received a kit of parts to provide a level starting point.
Teams then had a total of six weeks to construct a robot that has the opportunity to compete in 30 regional events offered in cities across the United States and Canada.Additional information regarding the 2006 FIRST Robotics Competition can be found on the Internet at www.usfirst.org and more details on Siemens Corporation's Caring Hands/Generation 21 Initiatives is available at www.usa.siemens.com/siemenscares .
