Guide helps consulting engineers and other design professionals create effective, energy-efficient laboratory environments.

April 8, 2009 − Siemens Building Technologies is offering a Life Science Solutions Design Guide written expressly for consulting engineers and other professionals who are looking to design and specify effective and more energy-efficient laboratory facilities. With a focus on building automation solutions, this comprehensive, stand-alone laboratory control specification resource is written and organized to help engineers properly configure laboratory ventilation and control systems. It provides an overview of Siemens environmental control offerings, technology reports and application guides for laboratories, animal research facilities, FDA-regulated facilities, bio-containment and critical storage applications.

“This Life Sciences Solutions Guide is the first of its kind offered in this industry,” said Diane Feliciano-Welpe, Director of Life Science Solutions at Siemens Building Technologies. “It takes a component-based approach to system design that allows lab engineering professionals to quickly scope and execute these projects while adding incremental value along the way." Siemens’ easy-to-use design guide is divided into sections based on the type of deliverable and provides users with several tools to help optimize laboratory building automation solution development. It provides technical product specifications for a wide variety of system components including fume hood controls, air terminal technology, alarming and notification, and data management.

The guide also contains Siemens Technology Reports on energy savings and sustainability, laboratory ventilation, overall lab design and more. “Lab system designers are faced with a number of challenges. Whether it’s meeting the demands of changing regulations, improving energy efficiency or reducing risks to personnel, organizations need to closely examine their building systems and integrate solutions that will help them in these areas,” said Feliciano-Welpe. “Our new design guide acts as a catalyst for the success of these efforts and will assist them in the process.”

As a leading provider of energy and environmental solutions, building controls, fire safety and security systems solutions, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., makes buildings comfortable, safe, secure and less costly to operate.
