Silchester, renown for its high quality innovative solutions, has won a high-profile contract with icax. icax, the technology innovators, hit the national news recently with their new IHT™ product trial. IHT™ - Interseasonal Heat Transfer- is an environmentally friendly and positive system to control the impact of heat, snow and ice on tarmac surfaces using the Sun's energy and ground thermal storage. The trial will also demonstrate the ability of IHT to collect, store and distribute heating and cooling for buildings. The project is sponsored by the Highways Agency and managed by Transport Research Laboratory Ltd.
It is expected on this trial to deliver between 90 and 150KWh per m2 of collector per year.This product has multiple global applications from roads, schools, industrial and commercial buildings, airports and superstores in fact anywhere where a large surface area can be employed as collectors.Silchester has designed a robust and adaptable control and monitoring system to enable real-time changes to be made during the trial periods and to provide performance logs of the control effects.Silchester have been very well supported, with thanks, on this project by Citect SCADA and HMI, Lenze PLCs, Westermo industrial modems, switch and router, Fairchild touch-screen display and AA Electrical Southern panel.IHT summary of routine for winter snow and ice control on road surfaces:-1.
The summer sun heats the road surface2. Heat is transferred to collector pipes located below the surface.3. Heat is circulated from collector pipes into insulated below ground store4.
