Telvent integrates with Longwatch video surveillance system

Telvent integrated the Longwatch Surveillance System with its OASyS DNA SCADA system. This lets oil, gas, electric, and water network operators monitor video via an OASyS SCADA system.

June 4, 2009 – Telvent is partnering with Longwatch to integrate components of the Longwatch Surveillance System with the Telvent OASyS DNA supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. This alliance provides oil, gas, electric, and water network operators the ability to utilize video to monitor, control access, and verify alarms at centralized control or remote network sites through an OASyS DNA SCADA system.

The alliance of the Longwatch Surveillance System and Telvent OASyS SCADA system delivers value to oil and gas pipeline companies and electric transmission and distribution organizations in two important ways: it helps those organizations meet ever-increasing industry regulations regarding security of critical assets, and it also reduces operating costs by improving facility up-time, utilization of personnel and facilities, and worker safety. With Video Control Center software and a video collection engine, this surveillance system pulls together video images and displays the images to a central control room.

The integration provides event-based video and system alarms on the same display to operators in the OASyS system control room, adding yet another level of real-time information supporting reliable network operations. Operators also can email video clips to remote or on-call operations personnel and centrally manage access permissions and remotely monitor and unlock entry points. The Longwatch Surveillance System is the only system that can transmit video over existing SCADA networks. The distributed architecture of this system is an ideal platform for interface with Telvent’s distributed OASyS SCADA. ”We’re pleased to see Telvent reinforce its leadership in SCADA systems by providing integrated video capability,” said Steve Rubin, President and CEO of Longwatch.

“Until now, electric power, oil and gas, and water companies have lacked a way of deploying integrated video monitoring, especially in remote facilities. The distributed architecture of both the OASyS DNA and Longwatch systems will serve these customers in a very efficient and flexible way.” “The partnership between Telvent and Longwatch yields a foundation of confidence in the relentless drive to provide our customers with unparalleled safety and security,” declared Manuel Sanchez, Telvent’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,“Asset protection comes in many forms, and we are proud to offer best-of-breed technology.”
