Research Triangle Park, NC -- The charter stakeholders of The Automation Federation began the formal organizational process with meetings at the ISA President’s Spring Meeting last week in Orlando. Representatives of OMAC, WBF, and ISA met to sign incorporation documents, discuss initial strategic initiatives, and outline next steps. “We’re thrilled to officially start the formal incorporation with the signing of our incorporation documents. Finally, the automation industry has a one-stop-shop for authoritative knowledge. We believe that the Federation will help lead the profession into a bright future,” said Maurice Wilkins, WBF Chairman.
The organizations agreed on the scope of the Managing Director position that will provide staff management for The Federation. Recruiting is underway for an experienced leader that can effectively work with industry professionals in fulfilling the objectives of The Federation. The position is expected to be filled this summer. The purposes of the Federation are:
- To coordinate and unify the work of member organizations engaged in advancement of the science and engineering of automation technologies and applications, encompassing the design, development, production, and application of devices and systems that sense, measure, manage, and control industrial processes and manufacturing operations;
- To promote the value and image of the automation profession;
- To facilitate the development and dissemination of educational and informational resources intended to develop new generations of professionals and enhance the effectiveness of existing professionals;
- To facilitate the promulgation of industry standards, guidelines, and services that will enhance the efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and safety of automation technology and application.
“The Federation members will work together to manage strategic programs and technical working groups comprised of participants from all constituent organizations.
At the same time, we expect each member organization to continue as distinct entities fulfilling their respective missions,” said Andy McDonald, OMAC Chairman.
The Board of Directors for the Federation was also announced.
Consistent with the bylaws of The Federation, the Board will consist of one representative from each member organization and two representatives from ISA as the founding organization, along with ISA’s Executive Director.
The current representatives are Maurice Wilkins (WBF), Andy McDonald (OMAC), Steve Huffman (ISA), Ken Baker (ISA), and ISA Executive Director Patrick Gouhin.
Ken Baker, as ISA President, is the chair of The Federation board.
“The Automation Federation will give members the opportunity to interface with different segments of the automation world, thereby expanding their influence and increasing their effectiveness,” said Baker.
The Federation Board will meet monthly to discuss evolving strategies for collaboration and how to best fulfill the organizational objectives.
