May 16, 2012 - The OPC Foundation announces the appointment of Thomas Hahn, Siemens AG, to the Board of Directors. Hahn was unanimously elected by the OPC Foundation Directors to replace Reinhold Achatz, who resigned his seat after accepting a new position with ThyssenKrupp AG. Dr. Achatz, formerly of Siemens AG, was a charter member of the OPC Foundation Board, joining the organization in 1997. Hahn is the chief software expert inside Corporate Technology for Siemens AG.

Since joining Siemens in 1986, Hahn has held a number of software development, marketing and managerial roles, including his most recent as head of product development for the Siemens SIMATIC engineering system, TIA Portal. “The OPC Foundation Board of Directors includes representatives from many of the major global industrial automation suppliers. The significant contributions, commitment and dedication of the board members are a major reason for the success of OPC technology,” says Thomas Burke, President and Executive Director of the OPC Foundation. “I welcome Hahn to the OPC Foundation Board and look forward to his leadership and insight in driving the future direction of the OPC Foundation.”

In addition to Hahn, the OPC Foundation Board includes: Thomas Burke, President and Executive Director of OPC Foundation and Chairman of the Board; Russ Agrusa, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ICONICS; David Eisner, Chief Engineer and a senior engineering fellow for Honeywell Process Solutions; Kenwood Hall, Vice President of Architecture and Systems Advanced Technology at Rockwell Automation; Nobuaki Konishi, Vice President, Industrial Automation Systems Business Division of Yokogawa Electric Corporation; and Grant Wilson, Vice President of Technology for Emerson Process Management.

About the OPC Foundation

The OPC Foundation is the world’s leading community for interoperability solutions based on OPC communication specifications that deliver universal connectivity. OPC is the interoperability standard for secure, reliable and platform-independent information exchange. It provides open connectivity by defining an interface between clients and servers, as well as servers and servers, for different fields of applications. OPC technology is widely used for information integration in industrial automation and related domains, facilitating data transfer from the lowest operational levels to enterprise-aware applications. As the official source for the OPC Certification Program, the nonprofit OPC Foundation helps ensure that OPC products plug-and-play in real-world application.

With almost 500 member companies, the OPC Foundation promotes education, awareness and adoption of the OPC specifications through global collaborations.
