IRVINE, Calif., March 1, 2005 -- Triconex, a unit of Invensys Process Systems, today announced it has received a contract from Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to retrofit and upgrade critical controls at NPPD's Sheldon Station, a coal-fired generating plant. As a leading global supplier of products, systems and services for safety, critical control and turbomachinery applications, Triconex will provide Sheldon Station with the mechanical retrofit and controls upgrade for a Westinghouse re-heat turbine generator. The power station will replace its existing Westinghouse mechanical governor system with Triconex's TS-3000 Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) control system.
Start up of the Triconex controller at the facility is planned for June 2005." Located near Hallam, Neb., Sheldon Station was originally built as an experimental nuclear power plant for the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). The AEC, which has been renamed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, acquired the information it needed and the nuclear portion of the facility was decommissioned. Today, Sheldon Station's two boilers can generate 225,000 kilowatts of electricity.
