Event attendees learned more about Valmet’s sustainable, cost-effective technologies for the biofuels and biomaterials industry, including flow control solutions and automation.

Dec. 10, 2025 – Valmet recently exhibited at the U.S. Industrial Pellet Association (USIPA) 2025 Conference, which took place Nov. 9–11 in Miami, Florida. Event attendees learned more about Valmet’s sustainable, cost-effective technologies for the biofuels and biomaterials industry, including flow control solutions and automation, as well as systems for entire process areas, like CHP boilers and hydrolysis systems.

Technologies highlighted within the Valmet booth focused on solutions for the advanced steam treated black pellet production process—from raw material infeed through to pellet discharge.

Black pellets offer a durable, energy-dense and renewable alternative to coal for power and heat generation. The full plant offering includes technology for material handling, drying, steam treatment and densification, with integrated heat and chemical recovery systems and CHP. The Valmet DNA distributed control system provides full process monitoring and control at all steps, ensuring efficient and reliable operations from end to end.

Black pellets offer about 30% higher energy density than conventional white pellets, as well as superior handling, storage and transport properties, such as moisture resistance and high wet and dry durability. “With decades of experience in biomass conversion and energy efficiency, Valmet continues to play a vital role in supporting the global transition toward renewable energy sources,” said Dave Pelletier, business manager, Bioenergy, Valmet.

Zachary Bacon, Process Engineer and Fiberline Specialist, Valmet, also presented and participated in a panel discussion — “From Niche to Necessary: Scaling Biocarbon for Energy, Industry and Markets."
