Oct 17, 2023 - Valmet has been selected to design and supply Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) for a petroleum refinery’s four boilers in the western part of India. The order was placed by Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the facility. The delivery is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter 2024, and the start-up is planned for the fourth quarter 2024. The order was included in Valmet’s orders received of the second quarter 2023. The value of the order is not disclosed.
The solution will help to reduce emissions and meet the new emission norms regulated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India. “The project aims to use Valmet’s FGD systems to reduce emissions of sulfur oxides (SOx) and soot dust, helping to clear and reduce air pollutants in India. This will be the first delivery of Valmet’s wet limestone FGD system in the Indian market,” said Sunil Chauhan, head of Sales, Energy, India Region, Asia Pacific, Valmet.
Technical information about the delivery
The system will be installed at the phase 1 of the refinery to comply with the new emission norms for thermal power plants. Valmet’s delivery includes major critical components of the FGD system, based on a wet limestone scrubbing process with gypsum as a by-product.
