July 5, 2011 - Westermo upgraded its production facility in Stora Sundby, Sweden. This development will help to increase both the volume that can be delivered and also ensure the quality of the final product. The updated production line includes a new SPI (Solder Paste Inspection), AOI (Automated Optical Inspection), X-ray inspection machine, Selective Soldering machine and two surface-mount machines. Over the last few years Westermo have reduced the level of warranty returns to a historic low level, but despite this the company is still investing continuously for improvements. "We work with a halving principle of guaranteed returns, for each year we will be twice as good as last year, regardless of the number of delivered products," says production manager Kari Parkkila.

As products from Westermo are often installed in critical installations in harsh industrial environments such as infrastructure, energy, water and wastewater projects, it is extremely important that the devices are reliable. Keeping the high level of quality that Westermo does is extremely challenging, especially when demand grows. The extensive investment in production machinery ensures that process and product quality can be improved while demand is growing. This investment makes the production unit in Stora Sundby to one of northern Europe's most modern production units of data communications products.
