With the Young Engineering Award, Deutsche Messe will for the first time honor a female expert from the STEM field who is no more than 30 years old, and has achieved exceptional things in her technical sphere. An independent jury consisting of the members of the WomenPower Congress Advisory Board has nominated three female candidates for this new award. The winner will be announced on April 21 during the WomenPower Congress. The initiative is intended to boost motivation for women to take up a career in the STEM sector.

The three women nominated for the Young Engineering Award

Lisa Ihde, from the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, is a web designer, game designer, design-thinking coach and author. As co-author, she was instrumental in writing the book "Learn how to implement games with the visual programming language Scratch." The games industry–like the IT industry in general–is heavily male-dominated. This makes it all the more important for women in the industry to get involved to a greater extent, in order to change the image of women in digital games. With her commitment, Lisa is a role model for all young women who decide to pursue a career in IT or game design, and who need strong role models for these career choices.

Dr. rer. nat. Soraya Laghmari El Moussati

works as a lead engineer for environmental technology at Bayer AG. After studying chemistry at the University of Duisburg-Essen, she also obtained her doctorate there before embarking on her career path. Soraya is passionate about chemistry; she is involved in the Bayer Business Resource Group Merge and also volunteers as a mentor with ROCK YOUR LIFE e.V.

Carolin Neumann

studied information technology at the Technical University of Berlin, and is an Associate Application Consultant at IBM. There, she develops IBM's internal cloud services as well as tools for managing various project software. Carolin is a role model at IBM events for female students. In addition, she is the founder of BYTE Challenge, a digital, free and non-profit platform for students and teachers.
