November 2, 2010 - The Electrical and Instrumentation Technology program at Western Wyoming Community College received a donation of ROC remote terminal units from Emerson Process Management. The ROCs will allow students to work directly with the same technology that is used in many industries. WWCC Instructor of Electrical & Instrumentation Technology, Gerry Aust said, “We are extremely thankful to receive this technology from Emerson, our students will now be able to work hands-on with the equipment that is out in the field.”

Partnering with labs like this one addresses a major issue – how to create a trained, more highly-skilled workforce and safer, more efficiently run operations.”Western currently offers two certificate options and one A.A.S. degree in the electrical and instrumentation field - a 24 hour Certificate Program in Electricity, a 36 hour Certificate in Electronics/ Instrumentation/Control Technology, and an A.A.S.
Degree in Electrical & Instrumentation Technology. Many industries employ electrical technicians, including; power plants, oil and gas production facilities, mining operations, and chemical processing plants. WWCC’s program is designed to meet the needs of students currently employed in industry looking to upgrade their skills, as well as, students looking to begin a career as an electrical technician.Steven Christiansen, with Questar Wexpro remarked, “The WWCC students who come out of this program are at a huge advantage compared to most. We use the term “Plug & Play” when people don’t need to be trained on the job, these students will already have the knowledge and skills they need to get right to work.
They will be very valuable employees”
