Thiele Technologies to acquire Nigrelli Systems

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — April 2, 2008 — Robert H. Chapman, chairman and CEO of Barry- Wehmiller Companies, Inc., and Larry Smith, president and CEO of Thiele Technologies, Inc., have announced an agreement to acquire the intellectual property and certain assets of Nigrelli Systems, Inc. of Kiel, Wisconsin. This is the latest in a series of strategic acquisitions over the past two years that have positioned Thiele as a leading provider of comprehensive packaging equipment, systems and solutions, with annual revenues totaling nearly $80 million. For more than 50 years, Nigrelli Systems has been a leading supplier of high-speed continuous motion packaging and tray handling systems for a diverse array of industries, including brewing, soft drinks, foods, bottled water, dairy, pharmaceutical, petrochemical and pet care. Nigrelli systems are known for their reliability and performance across a broad range of container types and packaging configurations. Thiele Technologies was formed in 1998 following Barry-Wehmiller’s acquisition of Bemis Packaging Machinery Company and that company’s subsequent integration with Thiele Engineering, Master Palletizer and Frontier Packaging. Thiele’s recent acquisitions of Edmeyer dairy systems, Streamfeeder and SWF/Salwasser have made the company a well-balanced supplier of end-of-line packaging systems for a wide range of domestic and international markets. Commenting on the acquisition, Smith said, “Thiele’s acquisition of the Nigrelli Systems product line provides a unique synergy of technologies, capabilities and market experience. Nigrelli’s high-speed, continuous motion equipment is the perfect addition to the Thiele family of packaging equipment, systems and solutions. Thiele’s strong market presence and support services will provide exceptional added value to Nigrelli customers.” Thiele is an industry-leading provider of systems for cartoning, case packaging, bagging, palletizing and feeding. The addition of the Nigrelli line will expand Thiele’s product offerings to include high-speed beverage tray packers for cans and bottles, high-speed shrink bundling and tray machinery, printed roll stock shrink bundling machinery, bottled water packers, plastic tray denesters, and pallet shuffle systems. Thiele will now manufacture Nigrelli’s high speed beverage cartoning and tray packaging line and other products at Thiele’s Minneapolis, Minn., and Reedley, Calif., locations. All Nigrelli engineering, sales and aftermarket support associates will join Thiele and remain with the Nigrelli product lines.
