SERCOS releases spec for Ethernet version
The SERCOS trade organization completed the I/O profile for SERCOS III, the Ethernet-based version of the SERCOS interface. This specifies a device profile for decentralized I/O modules, which can be used for block I/Os as well as modular I/Os. This lets SERCOS III be used as a drive interface and a universal Real-time Ethernet solution for all kinds of automation applications. -

Pavilion Technologies, a world leader in model-based software, today announced Sinopec Yangzi, a leading petrochemical producer in China, has achieved considerable production benefits from the deployment of Pavilion's Polymer Solution. As part of the initiative, Sinopec Yangzi deployed Pavilion's Polymer Solution on a polypropylene line at its Nanjing, JiangSu Province facility. This project marks the first deployment of Pavilion's model predictive control (MPC) technology in China. -

Fieldbus Foundation enhances Device Description Library
Device Description (DD) Version 3.1. standardized source code library has been enhanced to make it even faster and easier for developers to build Device Descriptions (DDs) for new FOUNDATION instrumentation. All standard parameter labels and help strings have been translated to German. The library includes new manufacturer names and IDs, unit codes, and bugs have been fixed in response to action requests. -

ISA's HMI Standards committee identifies key areas to study
The ISA Human-Machine Interface Standards committee has identified five key areas, based on their scope statement, on which their standard will be focused. The topics that the committee will focus on are information display, process visualization, user interaction, performance, and documentation and training. They will divide into working groups next week at ISA EXPO in Houston, Texas, to work on the development of each topic. -
