Partnership with Rolls Royce will support key offshore oil field
Sesto San Giovanni (Milan), Italy, November 11, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a contract to design and build a self-contained energy support barge to serve the Kashagan offshore oil field in the Caspian Sea.Working in cooperation with Rolls Royce, ABB Process Solutions & Services SpA will oversee the design and construction of a generation barge with a total output of 120 MW of electricity for oilfield operators Agip KCO B.V.
The companies of the North Caspian Sea PSA, which includes the giant Kashagan field, are: Agip KCO (Operator 16.67%), BG Group (16,67%), ConocoPhillips (8.33%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.67%), Inpex (8.33%), Total (16.67%), Shell (16.67%)."
This contract takes advantage of our proven expertise in combining solutions for marine infrastructure, electrical power and automation," said Sandy Taylor, BU Manager Oil & Gas. "It complements earlier ABB projects for oil production and pipelines in the Caspian region and positions us at theforefront of technology in this energy-rich location." ABB's contract scope covers engineering, procurement, construction, and startup activities plus various automation and power systems for the 95 meter-long barge.
The project will be designed at ABB PS&S's office in Milan, while Rolls Royce will provide four 30 MW gas turbine generators sets with dedicated auxiliaries.When completed in mid 2006, the barge will be towed into position on the Kashagan oil field, some 80 kilometers south of Atyrau, Kazakhstan.
