Advantech announces SPC-500 series of stainless steel human-machine interfaces
Advantech’s SPC-500 series is designed to satisfy these requirements and withstand operation in harsh industrial environments.

May 29, 2020 – Advantech, an industrial computing platform provider, announced its SPC-500 series of stainless steel human-machine interfaces (HMIs) aimed at applications with strict safety and hygiene requirements. In industries such as the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and packaging industries, all equipment must meet strict requirements for hygiene, robustness, and reliability. Advantech’s SPC-500 series is designed to satisfy these requirements and withstand operation in harsh industrial environments. Powered by an Intel Core i3-6100U processor, SPC-500 HMIs are enclosed in sealed housing made of SUS304L-grade stainless steel, which is resistant to oxidation, corrosion, and bacteria, and allows cleaning with harsh detergents.

For applications that necessitate regular sanitization, the IP69K rating provides full protection against the ingress of dust and water (even at high temperatures and high pressure). The glass panel features IK08-rated shatter protection in case of external impacts, eliminating the potential for food contamination or safety hazards caused by broken glass. Moreover, SPC-500 HMIs are compliant with the DIN EN 1672-2 safety and hygiene standards for food processing machinery, making them suitable for commercial and industrial food processing. Regarding installation, with the integration of a VESA mount, SPC-500 HMIs can be securely mounted on any support arm system, fixing system, or stand.

SPC-500 HMIs are enclosed in sealed housing made of SUS304L-grade stainless steel that is resistant to oxidation, corrosion, and bacteria, and allows sanitization using harsh detergents. The IP69K rating provides protection from dust and water ingress (even at high temperatures and pressures), which allows the system to withstand regular cleaning. The tilted frame design encourages liquid roll-off while the hairline finished surface reduces bacteria adherence as well as dust and moisture accumulation for enhanced hygiene. To further protect against corrosion and equipment failures, SPC-500 HMIs are equipped with a pressure compensation element that balances pressure differences between the housing and surrounding environment due to changes in airflow temperature.

The pressure compensation element delivers IP68/69K-rated protection from vapor and contaminant ingress to ensure reliability during equipment operation. In accordance with the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) guidelines for hygienic design and the DIN EN 1672-2 standards for food processing machinery, SPC-500 HMIs are built using specially designed screws that are resistant to residue buildup in order to prevent microbial contamination during food processing.
