Experion PKS is Vital to Remote Offshore Platform Operation
PHOENIX, March 10, 2004 – Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Process Solutions announced today that it has received an order from BP in Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) for an extensive automation solution for bpTT’s Cannonball Development Project, located offshore Trinidad. The leading-edge technology will provide bpTT with increased safety, remote access to their platform and a reduction in operational costs. The solution, worth just under one million dollars, includes Experion™ Process Knowledge System (PKS), Fail Safe Control (FSC®), Digital Video Manager, Hart Interface, and a range of services including project management, installation and commissioning. The system will integrate with bpTT’s existing offshore system.
BPTT’s local experience with Honeywell systems was a key factor in the decision to choose Experion, along with the low risk of error when integrating with existing systems. Honeywell’s proven ability to interface with third party systems was also a deciding factor. This local experience includes similar installations on five offshore oil and gas production platforms and three land-based sites, which control oil terminal, gas processing and gas dispatch facilities. The first of these systems was commissioned in 1997 and formed the Upstream Development for the Atlantic LNG facility of which bpTT is a major shareholder. Honeywell process control systems also control the downstream Atlantic LNG facility.
BPTT’s goal for the Cannonball Development Project is to operate from a central onshore control room. Experion integrates with Honeywell’s FSC safety management system to provide operators with a complete view of critical operations affecting all areas of a facility, and is a first step toward achieving bpTT’s objective. “Honeywell is honored and excited to partner with BP in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Jerry Walker, Honeywell Process Solutions’ Vice President of Europe, Middle East and Africa. “Experion allows companies to efficiently manage all of their systems, and will allow bpTT to lower their operating costs.”
