Bologna, 16th June 2003. Datalogic has developed an ESD version of the Gryphon™ reader series to be used when ESD poses a threat to product quality such as in electronic component manufacturers or medical analysis laboratories.
The new Gryphon D200 ESD is a product specifically developed for Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) control in response to strict requirements of EPA (ESD Protected Areas). These applications are growing in number, especially in electronic component manufacturers, as consumers demand more compact products, with increasing circuit density and decreasing component sizes. The most advanced materials have been used to design and develop the new ESD-safe Gryphon™ reader. The body of the product is composed of a slightly conductive plastic, rather than an insulating one, to prevent the accumulation of triboelectric charges. In addition, there are specific cables for the new Gryphon D200 ESD to guarantee ESD safety between any two points.
In this way no charge accumulation on the plastic body is possible and the reader itself will always be at the ground potential to avoid the possibility of ESD.All these characteristics are coupled with the same outstanding performance of the standard Gryphon™ model, in terms of reading speed - 270 scans/sec - and decoding capability. It can read the most popular stacked codes such as PDF417, CODABLOCK and CODE16K, as well as traditional bar codes.
In addition, the Gryphon D200 ESD features the "green spot", (Datalogic patent application) which provides "good reading" feedback directly on the code, where the user usually tends to be looking. The Gryphon D200 ESD has been tested and certified for electrostatic properties by MicroStat Laboratories / River's Edge Technical Service, who are specialists in materials testing and technical services. The Gryphon D200 ESD is particularly suitable where sensitive electronic components are handled, installed, or assembled, as well as in hospitals, where ESD poses a threat to product quality.
It helps reduce direct and indirect costs related to damaged electronic components, or compromised measurements taken by very sensitive instruments in hospitals and medical analysis laboratories.Datalogic developed the new Gryphon D200 ESD bar code reader in conjunction with Codestar, specialists in ESD compliant industry bar code scanners. www.codestar.com .
