2-Position Downport Brooks MFC conforms to new industry standard, increases accuracy and reduces maintenance in analytical systems

HATFIELD, PENNSYLVANIA (May 22, 2003) -- Emerson Process Management announces the introduction of a Brooks(R) mass flow controller (MFC)designed to integrate with surface mount components (also known as "gas stick" technology) for industrial applications. The elastomer-seal Brooks MFC simply locks into the 1½" ports and occupies only two positions on a substrate system. The new design connects to surface mount components, without the need for adaptor plates, by conforming to the ANSI/ISA-76.00.02-2002 specification.

Surface mount components are based on the Integrated Gas Component (IGC) created for the semiconductor industry several years ago. When the Center for Process Analytical Chemistry (CPAC) standardized the application of this sampling technology for non-semiconductor industries, they determined that MFC manufacturers would need to modify their devices to fit the new modular design of surface mount components.Just like IGC technology, elastomer surface mount components allow users to gather data directly from a sample point in their analytical systems.

This change will increase data accuracy as well as reduce maintenance in their systems by simplifying installation and facilitating part interchangeability.Emerson is one of the first manufacturers in the industry to offer an elastomer-seal MFC specifically designed for industrial surface mount applications. The company is also in the process of developing modified versions of its glass and metal tube variable area (VA) meters for this technology. To properly modify its control devices for surface mount component technology, Emerson conferred with Swagelok Company for technical assistance.

Swagelok is one of the first companies to bring this technology to market with its recently-introduced modular platform components.About Emerson Process ManagementEmerson Process Management ( www.emersonprocess.com ), an Emerson business, is a leader in helping businesses automate their production, processing and distribution in the chemical, oil and gas, refining, pulp and paper, power, food and beverage, pharmaceutical and other industries.
