Encoder Technology today announced the immediate availability of a new line of optical encoder modules targeted for application in detecting and reporting linear movements. Designated the LM series, these units, when used together with the appropriate linear scale, provide a TTL output capable of controlling systems that do not require micron resolutions.This compact design is based on Encoder Technology’s proven technology in Phased Array Opto-Ic’s, the basis for the line of very successful industrial encoders (HD20 and HD25), and the products which have become the new industry standard for meeting stringent oil field equipment requirements (S20 and S25). The Linear modules are capable of 25 cycle per millimeter or 720 cycles per inch resolution.
The TTL output of these encoders is in quadrature and can be multiplied by 4, producing resolutions of .01 millimeter, or .00035 inches.The Linear Modules are often applied in positioning systems for manufacturing processes, pick-and-place robotics, medical instrumentation, packaging equipment, and material handling systems. In addition the Linear Modules are used in motion control systems as feedback for linear motor and short stroke linear actuator products.
