December 22, 2004, Greenwood, Indiana - The Swiss Endress+Hauser Group (process automation) consolidates their offer by a strategic collaboration with Rockwell Automation, Inc. (Milwaukee/USA). Together the two companies will provide comprehensive solutions for plant engineering, operation and management to customers with hybrid automation tasks (production and process automation), utilizing the top measurement devices of Endress+Hauser and the integrated control, communication and visualization platform of Rockwell Automation.

The collaboration of the two independent suppliers makes process and production automation move closer together and simultaneously underlines today’s importance of open standards such as FDT in industrial automation.Endress+Hauser specializing in measurement instrumentation and automation solutions for industrial process engineering will work closely with Rockwell Automation implementing and testing the full capability of Endress+Hauser devices with Allen-Bradley Logix controllers and RSLogix 5000 software. To this end standard communication protocols such as Foundation Fieldbus™ or HART® are used.

Rockwell Automation in turn as one of the leading suppliers worldwide for industrial automation will utilize the FieldCare Software developed by Endress+Hauser in their maintenance software portfolio RSMACC. Based on the open FDT/DTM (Field Device Tool/Device Type Manager) technology, FieldCare allows for configuration, operation, maintenance and management of a wide range of modern field devices. “We have entered into this collaboration – and will further develop it – for the first to bear profit will be our customers and those of our partner,” said Klaus Endress, CEO of the Endress+Hauser Group. “The customers call for open and not for proprietary solutions.” He thus mentions a “typical win-win-win situation”.

For Rockwell Automation, the collaboration means last but not least a commitment to open standards. The company intends to join the FDT Joint Interest Group, an association of very many automation companies with the mutual goal to enhance the open standard FDT, and contribute to the steering committee.
