New Service Helps Pulp and Paper Customers Achieve Significant Results

MONTREAL, Feb. 8, 2005 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) today added a Profile Optimization Service to its growing portfolio of total solutions for the pulp and paper industry. The new service helps customers optimize operations by maintaining the quality of products and machines. "Sheet breaks, baggy rolls, incorrect press alignment and faulty tuning are just a few of the problems that can cause significant issues for pulp and paper mills and lead to costly production losses," said Bob Lahey, services marketing director, Honeywell Process Solutions.

"Our Profile Optimization Service helps our customers avoid these pitfalls and sustain profitable operations." Honeywell offers the service on a quarterly basis. A trained expert applying proprietary tools and specialized knowledge visits the customer site, collects and analyzes data, and implements appropriate changes to the control system. The service already has generated significant measurable results for pulp and paper customers, including:

  • A fine paper producer achieved 62 percent reduction in high-resolution dry weight profile spread after profile optimization was conducted on a 238-zone dilution headbox.
  • An uncoated paper producer achieved a 50-percent reduction in the dry weight profile spread on an uncoated SCB machine after replacing slice lip attachment springs and changing the headbox operation, and a 15-percent reduction in downgrade production.
  • A newsprint producer achieved a 41-percent reduction in break recovery time on a fast newsprint machine. For more information about the Honeywell Profile Optimization Service, visit www.acs.honeywell.com or contact your Honeywell account manager.
