AMERICAN WATER WORKS ASSOCIATION, ANNUAL CONFERENCE AND EXPO 2004, ORLANDO, Fla. (June 15, 2004) - Microwave Data Systems (MDS), a world leader in industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), public safety, telecommunications, and online transactional markets, together with full-service partner Twin Cities Industrial Control (TCIC), today announced it will provide wireless communications for the city of Woodbury, Minn.' s water and sewer services. The MDS iNET 900/ENI will be used to automate dozens of remote locations, enabling the city's Utility Division to monitor and maintain wells, water storage facilities, water mains, sanitary sewer lines, and lift stations through an EtherNet/Internet Protocol (IP) connection.

The iNET/ENI embeds the functionality of Rockwell Automation's 1761-NET-ENI adapter and other controller-specific gateway adapters directly in the MDS iNET 900. This eliminates the added expense of the adapter and results in the wireless extension of EtherNet/IP to any DF1 full-duplex device. The city is in the process of eliminating leased lines and the associated recurring expenses, by installing their own private wireless network. A mobile data system for the Woodbury Police Department is already up and running and operates using the MDS iNET 900, which is providing the city with additional cost savings. The infrastructure, already in place for the police department, will also be used for the automation of the water and sewer operations.
