ALLEN-BRADLEY AUTOMATION FAIR 2003, MILWAUKEE (November 18, 2003) – Microwave Data Systems (MDS), a world leader in industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automation, public safety, telecommunications, and online transactional markets, today introduced a new solution enabling backward compatibility and manageability of installed MDS systems. The MDS gateNETTM serves as an Internet Protocol (IP) terminal server gateway between an MDS serial radio network and your enterprise network, bringing serial payload data onto the network. It is the ideal solution for preserving your investment in legacy serial devices, while facilitating migration to, or expansion of, an IP enterprise network for data collection.

What makes the MDS gateNET unique is its ability to integrate MDS network-wide diagnostics onto the enterprise network via the gateNET diagnostic proxy server. This allows integration of your legacy radio products into the same SNMP network management system (MDS NETview or other) as the rest of your wireless or wired/wireless network. In addition, the MDS gateNET adds a Web server and Telnet interfaces for diagnostics and control of your MDS serial radio network. “MDS prides itself on offering our customers network solutions for the lowest total cost of ownership,” noted Jeff Ach, MDS product manager.

“Enabling backward compatibility allows customers to easily make use of their existing networks and expand them when necessary so there is immediate savings on infrastructure costs.” About Microwave Data Systems Microwave Data Systems Inc., headquartered in Rochester, N.Y., designs and manufactures networked high-speed, point-to-multipoint, and medium- and low-capacity point-to-point industrial, microwave radios for use in oil and gas, utility, lottery, traffic monitoring, public safety, and telecommunication provider industries.
