July, 2004 - Renton, Wash.: Microscan now offers multiple product solutions for reading the new space-efficient RSS (Reduced Space Symbology) and Composite Symbols. With both imagers and laser scanners to choose from, manufacturers no longer have to compromise on performance or features when selecting a bar code reader for RSS and Composite Symbols applications. For those who need to verify their symbols to ANSI/ISO specifications, Microscan imagers also include built in symbol quality validation software.Microscan’s latest bar code reader, the MS-860 industrial raster scanner is specifically engineered for decoding RSS/Composite symbols at aggressive line speeds for applications such as pharmaceutical packaging applications.

Raster-framing capability enables the user to adjust the height and width of the raster to match the dimensions of the Composite codes, enabling the user to optimize the scanner’s settings for decoding small stacked codes. Capable of scanning 2,000 scans a second, Microscan’s MS-9 high speed bar code reader is also capable of reading RSS codes at high speeds. For RSS/Composite applications better suited to imaging technology, Microscan also offers smart camera and hand-held imaging solutions. Patented rapid capture software enables the smart camera Quadrus EZ to read RSS/Composite symbols in high-speed applications such as unit-dose blister webs or pharmaceutical packaging lines.

Quadrus EZ will read the symbols, verify several ANSI/ISO quality parameters, and output the data in real time at speeds of 60 symbols a second. The MS-Q series of hand-held imagers also provide verification software for validating RSS/Composite symbol quality.Founded in 1982, Microscan was the first company to successfully integrate a laser diode into a scanner. Today, with a broad range of products servicing all major industries, Microscan continues its leadership role in advancing the state of the art in the bar code industry. Microscan is a Spectris company.
