July 22, 2003 -- National Instruments today announced the NI PXI-7350, the company's highest performance motion control module to date, now with added data acquisition capabilities. With the high-density PXI-7350, industrial automation engineers benefit from eight axes of stepper or servo motion control in the industry's smallest package. This 8-axis PXI (compatible with CompactPCI) motion control module gives engineers the flexibility of control for eight axes of motion in a single slot of a 3U PXI chassis. Using the PXI-7350, an 18-slot PXI chassis could potentially contain up to 144 axes of motion.

NI LabVIEW and Motion Assistant configurable software also simplify the integration of motion control with NI data acquisition (DAQ) and machine vision hardware to help engineers create seamless measurement and control applications. Through the integrated data acquisition capabilities of the PXI-7350, engineers can incorporate analog I/O into their motion control applications to take a variety of measurements, from potentiometers for position data, to thermistors for temperature measurements. This new motion control module includes eight 16-bit analog inputs for accurate, single-point data acquisition and 64-bit digital I/O lines for controlling solid-state relays or reading digital encoders.

The PXI-7350 also features arbitrary position triggers with which engineers can trigger measurements at rates of up to 2 kHz, an increase of more than 100 percent over previous NI motion control modules. In addition to these benefits, the PXI-7350 features sinusoidal commutation, which gives engineers the option of building systems with high-speed brushless servomotors.About National InstrumentsNational Instruments ( www.ni.com ) is a technology pioneer and leader in virtual instrumentation -- a revolutionary concept that has changed the way engineers and scientists approach measurement and automation.

Leveraging the PC and its related technologies, virtual instrumentation increases productivity and lowers costs for customers worldwide through easy-to-integrate software, such as the NI LabVIEW graphical development environment, and modular hardware, such as PXI modules for data acquisition, instrument control and machine vision.
