MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OHIO, August 29, 2005 — Rockwell Automation has added high- density, 12-point analog modules, HART analog modules, and D-Shell connector I/O bases with optional expansion boards to its Allen-Bradley Flex I/O product line. The offerings provide system designers and end users with increased flexibility, greater communication capabilities, and the opportunity to terminate more I/O in the same amount of space. “Many OEMs and end users want to standardize on a single low-cost, flexible I/O system that can accommodate a wide range of applications,” said Pat Moyer, product marketing manager, Rockwell Automation. “By continuing to expand our Flex I/O line, we can help customers lower costs and simplify maintenance by reducing spare parts inventory.”
The new Flex I/O 12-point analog modules feature higher resolution (16-bit) and filtered inputs for better noise resistance. They also provide the ability to drive larger loads that require higher voltages (12V). The Flex I/O modules are available as input (1794-IE12), output (1794-OE12) and combination input-output (1794-IE8XOE12).New eight-point HART analog I/O modules (1794-IE8H HART and -OE8H HART) allow Flex I/O to communicate with smart field devices that support the popular HART protocol. The integration of real-time HART data provides critical performance information to help users improve plant operations and reduce maintenance costs.
Modules also can access the HART digital signal in parallel to the module’s 4 to 20mA analog signal without slowing down the speed of the analog signal. The modules can be used on ControlNet or EtherNet/IP networks and be connected to HART field devices, HART handheld programming terminals, Rockwell Automation controllers, and field device tool (FDT)-compatible software, helping to reduce termination and wiring costs.Flex I/O bases with new D-Shell connectors and optional expansion boards provide users with easy connection and termination for faster, more reliable installation. This new product extension is ideally suited for semiconductor and other OEM applications where mass termination is preferred.
Many additional wiring options are available when expansion boards are mounted directly on the D-shell. This provides additional flexibility for using additional M8, 15-pin D-shell and other-style connectors.All the Flex I/O family additions are now available.
